Hello All, I've been reading through the tech forum to find some help with my problem and couldn't find one to help me. I just purchased an 86 B2 with a 2.9L and 5 speed. The immediate problem (besides a broken brake line) is that the B2 won't idle. Now being a stick there's ways to keep it running while sitting at a light, but that's not fixing the problem. I suspect it could be a sensor but not sure which one. The check engine light is on, so I could try a scanner when I can get one. I read about the IAC and cleaning that which I will try, but is there a particular sensor that controls the idle? Thanks for your help. This website is awesome!

im assuming that this is a fuel infested engine since talk about sensor so i would pull out your mass air flow sensor and clean it and rattle it if you hear something clanking around i think that means its bad. also try cleaning your throttle plate these do get dirty over time. also you throttle positioning sensor could be bad and sending wrong info to your injectors so try these out and go from there one more thing to check is a dirty fuel filter these are cheap and easy so you cant go wrong with replacing one

I took off the IAC and sprayed some carb cleaner down inside it. I couldn't get it completely apart to clean it very well, but I put it back on and I'll be damned if it isn't running a little better. So far it hasn't died out so it may just have been enough to fix that issue. Now on to the brake line!

that carb and choke cleaner is some good stuff i used alot of it when i first got my truck still do when working on 4 wheelers and dirt bikes

the brake lines shouldnt be to bad i have nevr done any on my truck but if fittings arent ceased up that should be fairly simple
