2.3 bell housing

Does the 2.8 V6 and the 2.3 I-4 take the same bell housing ? Being they are Fords I'm betting the don't interchange.
I'm not a Chev person, but one thing Chev had its stuff together on was the bell housing pattern. 153 C.I. four cylinder though 454 V8 and every thing in between had the same pattern on the back of the blocks.

I figured they were each unique. Does the 4-speed in an 84 Bronco2 have a different pattern on the transmission side of the bell housing than the 5-speed that came in the newer Bronco 2s ?
Thanks

the 2.8l, 2.9l, and 4.0l all share the same bell housing pattern. I would not recommend using some of the 2.8l/2.9l trannies on the 4.0l but they do swap. what exactly are you trying to do?

Possibly Bolting a 2.3 up to the Bronco transmission. I know Ford made a 2.3 powered 4X4 Ranger. From looking at previous posts it looks like there were several types of manual transmissions used.

besides the 2.3 to v-6 pattern are different, the 2.3 starter is on the right side and the v-6's is on the left.

you could bolt a 2.3l into your BII with the tranny you want to use but IMO it would be a step in the wrong direction...unless you had a turbo motor. one thing I will say about the 2.3 is they are hard to kill and you can find them every where. the down fall is I think you will get worse gas milage because of the weight of the truck...it would kind of be like a 302 in an old 70's pick up, ask me how my milage is...it will scare you.

Dbrown, the 2.3 in a Bronco2 idea goes back to my posts about putting a Ranger cab on a B2 frame. We have a parts B2 and a complete very beat up Ranger that is powered by a good running 2.3 so........ I have had several SVO 2.3 powered rigs and like you said the motors are tough. I don't think I would turbo this lash-up though, I have a eaton
supercharger off a 3.8 SC bird that I was eyeballing for this combination. The eaton requires a wider than normal belt though. I haven't quite figured how I would deal with that yet. Anyway this is something I would do down the road. V8 Ranger is first.
