Hello there The_BroncoII_Kid,

Nice meeting up wit cha. I am not in the Bremerton, Tahuya area I am over here in Kent. More specifically I live next door to Pacific Raceways or as some of us old men still call it SIR.

V6-2.8 is a better motor to Hot Rod some as there is more speed parts available. It makes it real simple without all of that computer stuff to deal with. A good 2.8 with a RV cam, Headers, and a Holly 350cfm carb and duraspark will be powerful and reliable both.

The 2.9 V6 is a different motor yet it is nearly the same. What is available speed part wise is fairly limited.

You can buy world heads that have been ported for a small fortune, or you can buy them and port match them yourself. When you do that you have a reliable set of heads. (2.9's are notorious for cracking heads.) If you own a 2.9 you will crack a stock head sometime or another. Get world heads.

You can get an awesome low-end cam from camcraft, lifters, rocker spacers, and even Roller Rockers if you got lots of discretionary spending.

Headers are available for the 2.9 4x4 or non-4x4 from summit.

Things that you won't find easily are things like a Carbed intake to eliminate the computer.

There are some good things you can do to the V6 but if you live in an area that is not being tested for emissions go for the gusto and swap in a 5.0.
It is a good bang for your buck.

I personally am building a 2.9. When it finally gets back in the truck it is going to be my test bed for attempting an installation of a Roots type Supercharger from a Super coupe 3.8. I am building the 2.9 with low compression for the supercharger and I have had a cam specially profiled from camcraft to work with this project.

Stay tuned for more. I just must finish the ol lady’s mustang, dammit Probably bout 3 more weeks on it.

Hello Kid,

I used to ride the Tahuya area often, we would stage up Elfendal road by the horse camp. I rode the hell out of mission trail and many others out there. I have not rode there in the last couple years though. Maybe this spring though. I got hurt a couple years back and have backed way off on dirtbikes.
I still love them but, 20 year old crashes with a 48 year old body is a bitch, and takes a long time to heal.

I don't remember if there were many 4x4 trails there ? When I was dirt biking I thought Jeepers were a pain in the ass, so I just ignored their trails. Now my son and I are jumping in with both feet !
Never say never.
