Ya the cutdown shouldnt be too difficult. I will mark the tube and knuckle in a couple of places to make sure its put on in the right place.

I went to pay and pickup the D44 and my inlaws pickup was gone. I guess my brother in law took it. So I am getting it tomorrow. THen I will mark and then cut down. I think I read that you need to cut 5.85" off the tube to get it EB size. I am still doing alot of searching.

Ok, I am now wanting input for which kind of shifter to use. Right now the FS is a column shifter and so the AOD has it set up that way. To use a floor shifter you have to open up the tranny and change it. I REALLY dont want to do that. So is there a way to keep the same setup at the tranny and use a floor shifter? Or am I going to have to find an explorer/ranger steering column with the shifter there? What do you think?

you should'nt have to change anything withn the tranny. you should be able to use a set up like the one from a floor shift C6 or AOD. i know it can be done i reach down to shift my tranny becuz i have'nt found a shifter that will work yet ( not that i've had time to look) :D . i am try 'n to find one maybe in a aerostar van becuz i dont want to pay $200.00 for a B&M shifter. you might even be able to use the b2 floor shifter.

I was reading a bunch of write ups on mustang sites and they showed how to make it a floor shift by going in to the top plate and moving the shift lever 180 degrees. Now if truck AODs are different then I will definately be using a floor shifter as it would be alot easier. I guess I will have to look close under the FS to see how it is setup compaired to the mustang AOD.

you could always go and get a Z-gate shifter. B&M makes them they run around $110.00 from autozone.

And the Zgate shifter wont make me have to switch the shifter on the AOD? If that is the case, then I will start lookin into that.

I don't think so, check with the people at the place you get it from. I know they work with the C6.

The Jeg's catalog lists the Z-Gate at $101.99. That's what I ran on my C-5/4. It does not list the AOD as one of the trannies it will work with. They do list other shifters for the AOD. However they note the need to purchase a seperate installation kit (Bkt kit #130-40496 $49.99) for AOD transmissions. They list the following B&M shifters to work with the AOD: Unimatic $99.99, Sport Shifter $139.99, Quick Silver $149.99, Light Truck Megashifter $167.99, Hammer Shifter $199.99, Street Bandit $259.99.

Hope that helps.
