So I ordered a water pump for an 87 ford f-150. Pull off the water pump and sure enough I get e1ae-8505-aa as a part #. 81 galaxy. I need to know if the new pump will work. I mean, say the rotation happens to be different can I just route the belt different and use it or is water pump rotation specific to the block as well.

Hopefully you can tell me the rotation by this pic. Keep in mind drivers side dump.

that E1 casting is when ford come out with that style pump and ran it for a few years till they changed it. its only $14 for a pump,pretty cheap. there should be a date code on the pump

Yeah I got one for cheap. Is there a typical spot for the date code on the wp? Also can you tell the rotation by the propeller?

under the inlet. ive never had a reverse rotation one

you cant mount a reverse rotation WP on a std rotation timing cover. the ports are in different spots.

Here is a nice little cheat sheet to determine whether you have a standard or reverse rotation waterpump. It cannot be determined by what side your lower radiator hose drops or whether or not your running a serpintine setup. However I do think all v-belt setups use a standard rotation pump. Now if you suspect anything about your water pump just take it off and have a look. If your water passages lean to the right you have a standard rotation pump, and if they lean to the left you have a reverse rotation setup. I hope this helps someone out.

Well, the date code is wore off. I somehow cross referenced the part number on my pump to match the same pump used on a Grand Marquis.

Any way I broke two bolts off in the process of removing the old pump. I really don't want to pull the timing cover, but if I absolutely must I will. I will be able to get the one bolt out, but the other is broken off in block at the driverside water passage. I was thinking about just tapping the timing cover and getting a new bolt for there. I really don't want to risk drilling into the water jacket and ruining the block. I know I could use an easy out or a left handed drill bit but like I said, I don't want to pull the timing cover. I'm going to have to pull the cover........ Any other thoughts? :confused: I need this ready by June 5th. Keep in mind this is off-road only, so that is why I want to drill and tap the timing cover. If it were a DD I would fix it right. But I just want to get this thing done. It's been way to long.

i have a 4wheelin meet to go to the 29th, its a all day event, im checkin my ranger out from bumpa ta bumpa so i dont berak down in the woods 2hrs from home.

Now I don't want you thinking I have micky moused my rig. I was just looking for opinions. I myself have yet to be stranded. This weekend I will pull the timing cover and get it out of there. I am first going to try and weld a nut on the end to get it out. We will see what happens with that. I just went down and looked it over and it won't be as bad as I thought.
