The problem I am having makes it dump fuel and put out tons of black smoke when warm.
The bat has been disconnected for months and I don't know the history so I am unsure. I think I will start swapping out spare sensors to see what fixes it starting with the O2, then the MAP then the temp and ACT.
Try hooking up all the vacuum lines

Why should I do it when you can do it for me
Josh's brother came over and he has a Bronco that has an intake kit on it without the lines and it's fine

I think if you look a little closer, those lines control the hot air intake valve that feeds off the exhaust. With those lines disconnected, it was choking itself out.

I am having the opposite problem with my '86 2.9l. it idles extremely erradically and misses like a bitch when its cold but when its warm it'll run perfectly smooth. Is this a problem that needs checking out or will it be fine?

I had these symptoms on my 86 2.9 a couple years back. Codes brought up the EGR so I replaced that, but that wasn't it. Had a shop chasing after it. They fixed a handful of things but I ran out of money before they found the original problem of it running rich, blowing black smoke, and stalling. Finally talked to a guy who had this problem on a Ranger. At his suggestion I replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator and it has run well since.
