Seafoam on fuel injectors

Post by jtrask »

Anyone out there used seafoam to clean the fuel injectors? If so, how'd you do it, and how did it work?

Save Your money......

Buy a fuel injector cleaner that plumbs into the system and use the "Right Stuff" the first time.

Sea Foam,Dirty salt water, sparkling mineral water,
More magic elixers that promise to do everything from trippling your gas milage to leaving the inside of anything it touches sparkling clean. Right up there with engine restore. It's gonna rebuild your engine while you drive. Yeah....... Right......

+1

I always just pulled the injectors and cleaned them with carb cleaner and a brush.

i have heard of people using it and having good results but i have to agree, get some good injecter cleaner. as far as Restore, i have used it in several vehicals and had good luck with it, we had a 77 Datsun pu that was smoking and burned a quart of oil every 500 miles, added Retore and after about 500 miles it quit smoking and slowed down to only a quart every oil change, around 3000 miles.

desrt_rat,

I had a fairlane once with a 260 that consumed about as much oil as you described.

My brother got tired of pouring oil into it when he borrowed it. So one day he got this big ol Idea and poured 140W Gear oil in the car.

It ran better and smoked a lot less and leaked less..... There were downsides to it though. #1 was the oil stayed real thick but was a bugger for my little battery so I carried a spare in the trunk for when it was real cold out. #2 was it was not cheap but I worked in a gas station so cost was split. #3 finally the worst part was that car STUNK something awful. That gear oil burning is the worst smell....

Restore was a bad choice for example because I actually had another product in mind when I said that. This product was "Guaranteed" to rebuild your engine while it was running!

So you run right out and buy a Kit. This kit consisted of a pint bottle of "Cleaner/Catalyst". two bottles of stuff to put in your oil, and 8 little pellets Each one looking like a Big ol Rat %urd that you would place in each cylinder after removing the plugs. You then poured two 1/2 pint bottles of oil supplements into the engine oil! Start the vehicle and run the engine up to about 2500 Rpm and pour the contents of the 3rd bottle down the carb throat..

The company swore the pellets filled in micro scratches in the metal and reconditioned it. The two little bottles acted as a catalyst to start an electrolysis process that built the metal back up that had been worn away! The stuff down the carb was to make the valves seat better, Clean and lube the top end.....

Now this was quite a few years ago. I am significantly older now. Many people bought the hype and a lot swore by it.. Truth is they were all caught up in the moment. It was proven to be worthless but people still bought it. They eventually faded off the earth..
