Ok, never used a code scanner before (when I worked as a mechanic we didn't have to deal with all this electronic crap).
Anyway: I have an Actron scanner.
1. Started and warmed up the engine.
2. Pluged in the scanner and set ti Hold position.
3. Switched to test position.
4. on the KOEO test I got code 11 (passed) and nothing else.
Next:
Started engine and switched to test mode.
All I got was two seiries of 7 + 7 flashes.
According to the book this means :Opperator Error During Dynamic Respose Portion Off Test". Is this because I hadn't read that part of the book yet and should have done went wide open throttle momentartirly to continue the test?
Liked it much better when there was an Engine, Distribtor System, carberator, and NO Stink'in computers!
Code Scanner - What am I doing wrong?
Not Check Engine light or anything in particular. Was having a problem with it stalling when starting cold but I think I fixed that. Just recently purchased the truck and have been fixing all kinds of stuff. Thought it would be good idea to check to see if there were any problem codes to take care of while I'm at it.
If it isn't showing codes then typically nothing is wrong with the system. Mechanical failures are not listed in the computer. It only reads what has gone out of the preset parameters of the computer programming.
EBSteve just likes to watch me break things.:-)
