4.0 V6 swap
Willl the 2.8 or 2.9 stick flywheel bolt up to 4.0 ? Is it balanced the same ?
Thanks
Thanks
you can bolt the 2.9L flywheel to the 4.0l and it will work but you will need to use the auto starter on the manual transmission. I think I went over that in the write up I did...not sure though I haven't looked in awhile.

the manual says that some do, but the one I had did not. I have talked to people about using a 2.9L distributor and setting up a different system but I realy see no point in doing so. when it comes down to it, it isn't that hard you just have to take some time to get it done. the DIS system is a good system and you can get small block numbers with 21 MPG...

honestly I never tore into it that far...I know there was a plug where the sensor was supost to be so I am assuming that is what was in there. if you try to do that you could run into the problem like the 5.0L's have when converting over to the roller cam. there are 2 different gears and you have to get the right one or it will eat it alive. but like I said I never tore it down that far so you are in an unknown area for me...

The reason I asked is, If the 4.0 can be converted to a distributor, then using the Mega squirt system would be an option. I have done two EFI conversions using OEM CPUs and harnesses. They were both a major pain. I was never 100% satisfied with either conversion. I have a buddy using Mega Squirt on his 4.0 I-6 in a CJ, it is very slick. Stand alone ignition, no VAM, no EGR, best of all, its completely programmable.
