body lift

Post by mccutcheon4 »

We bought a 3 inch body lift off e-bay for my sons B2 today. Item number 8050662874.
I wonder how the steering shaft is going to be re-aligned after the lift is installed ? In the item description it says a steering extension is incuded.
Is the angle of the column changed ?

Yes the angle is changed. I put a 2" and then a 3" on my 84 BII. It had a rag joint in the steering shaft and the 3" body lift with the extension did have some binding with the rag joint. The 2" was fine. I am told that the later BII's have a u-joint in place of the rag joint and that this is not a problem.

We do have the rag joint. I wonder if the later Broncos do have a u-joint ? If so, is it a bolt on ?

I would go ahead and install it. If you do have the small amount of binding I had you can decide then if you want to replace the rag joint with a u-joint. I just ran it that way. I could feel it when turning the steering wheel but I never had any problems from it. They do make after market steering u-joints also.

I couldn't wait to tackle this modification, but it will have to wait now.
