I didn't see a Tech Section so I figured I would try my luck here.
Went junkin' today looking for some full-widths to put under my Bronco II. I found an odd F250 4x4 with what looked like a factory yellow revolving light on the top of it. It looked like it had a High Pinion 60 front axle, and a Dana 60 or possibly 10.25 rear. Could this be one of these rare "snow fighter" models? It was definitely a company truck of some kind, and it was 8 lug with I think manual locking hubs.
Any ideas? Regardless I bought the axles out of it (even if it's Dana 44 8 lug HP it's still worth it) because they were only $100 a piece. It didn't look like a Dana 44, the cover looked bigger and looked kind of squeezed together, I have seen a lot of 44's and this just didn't look like one.

Most Dana's have a tag on one of the diff. cover bolts that will say what it is. If not, the cast part of the housing that holds the diff. will have a D44, or D60 on one of the webbings toward the axle tubes.

It could be a D44 or D60. Try looking for a tag on the axle or any numbers you can google. If you can, go back to the yard and look for the door tag on the truck to see if you can find any info there (try the glovebox too, anywhere for that matter). Being a 78, the rear is a D60.

Well I didn't get the axles, the fawkin' guy said he had already sold the front axle (i.e. bullshit) to another customer. I would have bought the rear but they did not have a matching 8 lug front anywhere. So I ended up buying a HP Dana 44, and a 9 inch rear from a 78 F150 Stepside (short bed) 4x4. They are both 5 lug, but still worth $100 an axle. Regardless I was debating anyway on whether or not I wanted that heavy an axle under there considering I plan on keeping the stock motor.
