'84 BII doesn't like to start in Park
'84 BII doesn't like to start in Park
Hi all, new to the site. I just recently acquired an '84 BII from a friend. It has the 2.8L in it. When starting the truck it gets tempermental and requires me to put it in neutral before it will turn over
. Once started I can put it back in park and it keeps running fine.
Any suggestions why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Neutral safety switch is not aligned correct, plus shifter itself might be little off. Basicly, you are starting truck in the gear (not healthy for tranny).
I had the same. Look up on rangerstation under trannies- there is a good write up there. To alighn a switch you need to put a shifter in Park, loosen hold-down bolt on the switch and using a 1/8 drill bit align it until bit goes through little bit. For the shifter, loose bolt on linkage assembly, put lever in D, than manually shift tranny to the D and tighten a bolt.
