full width rear.....
full width rear.....
figured I would post up the progress.
sat. I installed a 31 spline factory trussed full width BB 9" in the EB. I think it might be just what I was looking for as far as width goes. I still need to swap the 31spline L/S carrier into my 3rd and install it but it went pretty smooth.
in these pictures the carrier is out of it that is why the drums look angled but it will give you an idea of where the WMS is located on the truck.

You're supposed to get it driveable before you start another project!

yeah, it had a big bearing in it all ready. the big problem I was having was the brakes on the factory rear were shot and the larger brakes wouldn't fit on the factory housing because of the axles. so in order to get big brakes I had to either buy new axles or swap out which I was planning on anyway. so I decided to spend $20 on some new perches instead of about $100 on brakes.
I am going to swap the carrier today and try to get the 3rd in it this week.

that was my thought also......but no. the axle flange is something like .09" different so it makes the drums hit the backing plates, even when you swap everything. from what I understand it is only in certain years. I think 76-77 had the right axles to run but any other years that were 28 spline were shorter.
I planned to keep it for a little while but I will probably sell it after it is all said and done.

well, I got everything back together today......rebuilt the track lock, reset the backlash and checked the pattern, everything was in amazing shape considereing it is so old. the only thing to do to the rear is fab some shock mounts.
the tire is about 3"-4" outside the sheet metal so I think once I add the rear flairs it will look perfect.

the first pic is kind of decieving I wasn't completely lined up with the body when I snapped it.
also the rims I am using have alot of offset. if it dosen't come out the way I want I will just use less offset in the rear.

I plan to leave the stock D44 up front but run the Bronco knuckle out for disk brakes. I don't think it is going to change the width any though. I need to make a drop track bar bracket to recenter the front also after the lift and to even out the angle to match the steering. I think with the flairs installed on the back it will be pretty close to to what the front will look like. if it is too much of a difference I will probably just run a different off set rim, I got some laying around.
the biggest reasons I did the swap was to get equal length axle shafts, 31spline, and bigger brakes. the way I look at it is if I have to run different offset rims that is a small price to pay. for the upgrade.
you were right about being able to sell that rear fast I already had a guy asking me to price it.......
