Anyone know of a good fix (besides a manual swap ) for making more reliable tranny lines? My 85 has steel lines coming out of the tranny that run up to about the oil pan. Then there is about 8 inches of rubber line, back into steel line. The steel line runs up to underneath the rad and then more mix of rubber and steel to the rad and tranny cooler. I went to swipe the lines from my 86 parts truck, but it is exactly the same. Here is the problem, the small clamps on the rubber hoses rust and break (like yesterday on my way to work when I absolutely could not be late) causing the lines to seperate and dump all my fluid out on the ground in rush hour traffic . Can this be converted to all braided or would that be too expensive? I need to come up with a dependable fix.

Get some stainless hose clamps. Seems that would be the easiest, and double them up. You need the rubber hose to allow for flex.
The braided aeroquip stuff is really nice, I'm making some power steering lines with it. I don't really think it would be cost effective for tranny lines though. Although cost is probably irrelevant when you are stranded somewheres.
I don't really have any other ideas other than dump the auto
I did the double hose clamp trick on my fuel lines when I did the 4.0L swap. it worked ok......I would do the same thing and just replace the lines every so often. that rubber hose is cheap.
you could flair some break lines in?

Possibly, if I knew how. Although I'm not sure that break lines would be a large enough diameter. That was one of the major problems with this particular tranny. Lines were too small to provide adequate cooling and they would burn up. The lines on the 86 I have are slightly larger.
The plan is to eventuly dump the auto, but $$ dictates right now. I will try the double clamp and make sure the clamps are stainless. The salt/chemicals in the winter here in Indiana are eating the bottom of my rig up.

I had an engine fire a while back and I have some of the powder from the fire extinguishers I used on the underside of my truck still and it rusts like CRAZY!
