Okay, so the news is that it will cost $200 to put my 1982 C4 back together. I also have a 1974 C4 from a Maverick (no 4X4). Can I take the transfer case off the 82 C4 and put it on the 1974 Maverick C4? What do I need to do? Would it be better just to go get another used C4 with the transfer case already attached?
Also, the guy has a 157 tooth bellhousing. I can get this one for $50 or just send back my smaller $100 torque and use the larger torque and flywheel. Has anyone had heat or space problems using the 164 bellhousing? Any superiority using a smaller flywheel?

The tail housing and output shaft would have to be changed from your 4x4 tranny to your 2wd tranny to use the t-case on the 2wd tranny. You could ask the tranny guy what he would charge to do that.
I don't know what C-5's and t-cases go for in your area but a C-5 from an 83-84 Ranger or 84 BII goes for $250 around here. With t-case that would ber even higher. But if you can get a deal on one for less than the $200 and are sure the tranny/t-case are at least as good as what you have then go for it.
That seems to be the going price for a used std. Bell ($50). The 157 tooth do help out with room a little. But how much depends on which motor mounts and if and how much body lift you plan to use.
