Shocks?

Post by kylebronco2 »

Hey, just a quick question, I did the solid axle swap with fullsize bronco front and rear, with springs and such, I havnt actually driven it yet, needs driveshaft mods.....can I drive it without shocks? Or is that gonna damage something? If I just try driving it without shocks, and it seems stable enough is it ok to drive it? Im not talking about driving long distances, just to and from work until I get shocks at the end of next week.
Thanks, Kyle

When I first did my swap, I drove to school without shocks. My bunghole was puckered then entire ride! I was only going 25-30mph.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend it. I had shocks in the rear and it was a scarey ride. I think if you had front shocks, you could probably get away without the rears.

Ok well I see what you all are getting at, the type of front coils you use would make quite a difference too, ive just got the stock FS coils in there for now, that might make it a little better. Anyways Ill see how it goes and try to look for some shocks this week.

How is it if you jump on the bumper? On mine, it really gets bouncing without shocks.

I would say its not too bad actually, the rear def bounce alot more than the front, the front doesnt seem to bad, oh well I guess im just gonna have to wait a couple days and see how it drives to know for sure. And ill post pics too. I think i ended up getting about 6.5 inches of lift out of the back and 5 or 5.5 from the front, it will level out when i decide to get new front coils. :D

The front will be harder push push down 'cause the springs are stiffer for the weight of te engine. Once you get that weight to bounce when you are driving it makes for a fun ride. You will find tat the rear will tend to not get alot of traction and will bounce from side to side. Wait for the shocks... and be safe to everyone around you. :D

When I drove without shocks, the actual "bumps" weren't really a problem, it was the "dips" that you couldn't really see coming

i went with out shocks for awail but it was trailered and it was like i was riding on a boat in choppy seas! I would put the truck in gear and it would flop over to one side and then put it in reverse and it would flop over to the other side. It was funny! Just put them on befor you hit the road
