Evaporator Core Removal

My 88 B2 A/C Has gone south and no long works. Most of the system has been removed with the exception of the Evaporator coil and housing around it. My question is can I remover the cover around the coil and leave it Off without disturbing the heater core area. I have no plans of ever reusing the A/C. Anybody ever tryed it????Thanks for the help

You can replace the heater box with one from a non-A/C equiped vehicle. Popular with the V8 conversions.
