help figureing this out

Post by joe509 »

i have a 86 bronco 2 with the 2.9 efi 5 speed 4x4!! the engine runs good for a couple minutes but the warmer it gets the worse it runs? the engine bgins missfiring and engine speeds up and down but when you unplug the spout connector the engine smothes out!! my question? is this more likely a power control module or more likely in the distributor??any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!!! also spark plugs are black and sooty!! yet you can,t smell gas out the exhaust and there are no catalytic converters or no mufflers on this just straight 2 inch pipes all the way back

I don't know if it's going to be the same problem, but I had problems with my spout connector too, it would only run if I took it out, my bronco wouldn't start if it was plugged in, so I ran without the spout in for 4 months, got really crappy gas mileage. I finally figured out my cpu was bad, picked one up out of an 88 ranger at the junk yard and solved the problem.
