weird steering wheel play

Post by 4d4life »

Hi I just bought a bronco II its a 88 2.9L with out a single dent and only two surface rust spots on the whole body. I love it all except the steering wheel has a weird play. if you put your hads on the sides of wheel (like at 3 and 9 o clock) and twist it like right nad pushes towards dash or pulls towards rear window the stearing wheel has play. its right in the joint where you raise and lower it. any ideas? the nut that hols the wheel on is tight and torqued to specs.

Have you looked at it with the column covers off to see where the play is? I had play and it turned out to be some bolt loose by the tilt. But these do break/wear at the tilt also.
