89 B2 4wd problems - electrical I think

Post by sjr82979 »

Push button was working and then stopped working. no 4wd lights on instrument panel or in push button. When I push 4hi button the control module behind the driver seat clicks twice and that's all I get. I pulled the shift motor off and took it apart to see if it was seized up and everything moved freely, didn't seem like it was messed up. I'm not sure exactly what fuse to look at under the dash, no operators manual when I bought it. The fuse under the hood looked OK. I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. If anyone has some direction with this i would appreciate it. Oh, the transfer case isn't locked up either, I can manually engage 4low w/o the shift motor on. If the control module is bad how can I check it before going and spending $200 on another one. Help please...

thanks in advance.

Chances are it's the little bushing in the shift motor. Once they break the computer loses track of where the motor position is so it just does nothing. Here's a write up.... http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/sho ... p?t=123542
I've fixed several with this problem already.
