Transmission Lube

I hav e a 1990 B2, 220,000 miles, 5 speed that is noisy, mostly 3thd & fifth gear. Have thought about putting synthetic gear lube in, is that likely to make any difference?

whats in it now?? run gear lube in it. run 80/90,90/140. and what tranny is it

Thanks, it's the Mitsubishi trans. When I got the B2 I believe it had ATF in it, drained it and put in gear lube.It works fine, just whines a bit.
