removing back plate on transfer case

Post by bigdaddy »

Thanks for the answers on gaskets, I will make it myself. My next question after putting the Bronco on jack stands and looking at the transfer case up close , is it advisable to remove the rear section on the transfer case without removing the whole transfer case from the vehicle? If this won't cause me a big problem in putting it back on it looks allot easier than removing the whole transmission and tranfer case. My rig is a 1987 Bronco II.

if it's just the speedo housing, then i would do it inframe. if it's haft case, it's easy to pull the t-case as one unit. remove 2 bolts on shift handle (1 big one small). rear driveshaft. pop the boot on front driveshaft. Note front driveshaft has keyway spine. speedo cable and wires. remove the 5 bolts on the t-case adaptor. don't be under t-case when removeing cause you'll get a fluid bath. I have pulled the rear half off doing it flat rate but if you don't know what you are doing it can be a b*tch. here some pictures

Thanks Drofman, your information worked and I didn't have to remove the transfer case. Thanks again.
