ok so info here http://www.broncoii4x4.com/forum/viewto ... ght#p22491
got me this outcome:
hooked up jumper wire
turned ignition to ON
check engine light flickered or just flashed once - very fast
very long pause
9 flashes with equal pauses between
-----long pause
8 flashes with equal pauses between
-----long pause
5 flashes with equal pauses between
-----long pause
4 flashes with equal pauses between
then the check engine light goes out and idle jumps up (roar) then it falls to around 800 or so and the check engine light comes on solid.
Are my codes 98 and 54?
I did the Key On Engine Running test (KOER)
98 is (with the engine running)
- Did not pass the Key Off Engine Off test (supposed to get code 11 (two flashes = systems ok)
- Transmission EPC circuit/solenoid failure - Transmission
Sometimes while I'm riding, the check engine light will flicker or go off and I will get over drive back. When the check engine light is on while driving - the truck will not shift into over drive. Cruise control and everything still works. No other abnormal shifts. Where is this EPC circuit/solenoid? What does EPC stand for?
54 is Intake Air Temperature (IAT)or Vane Air Temperature (VAT) signal high - ECT (Engine coolant temperature)
My temp gauge never goes above the "OR" in the word NORMAL
Any ideas on how I can fix this myself? I don't have a service manual :( Thanks!!

Re: check engine codes 98 and 54
ok so the EPC is the Electronic or Electric Pressure Circuit.
What does it measure the pressure of? transmission fluid?
Where is it on the truck so I can replace it?

Re: check engine codes 98 and 54
aiight - that thing was a pain in my ass to get seated in the screw hole.
here is the part - new on the left

ACT sensor Air Change Temp sensor

so i got the new on it. dielectric grease and thread lock added.
started the truck - no dice. MIL light still on.
so I read the direction on how to erase the codes. Per the instructions - unhook the jumper wire during the fault test while the MIL light is blinking. Hooked up the jumper wire and as soon as the MIL light started flashing, I pulled it out. MIL light went out - idle went up - all was good........then the MIL light came back on. :(
Did that multiples times at different times in the blinking and the reaction was all the same. However, if I leave the jumper wire in, the check engine light won't come on :wtf lol
sooooo.................. I'm still confused.... still got the codes 98 and 54

lol - anyone?
anyone recommend disconnecting the battery? or not to?
Anyone know where the EPC Solenoid is on the motor?

Re: check engine codes 98 and 54
so I just disconnected the battery terminals for about 5 minutes. Hooked them back up and still got the codes.
no one here has any info? Not even a scan or something of where the EPC solenoid is?

Re: check engine codes 98 and 54
I always disconnect the battery for at least 20mins. I'll try to find a EPC in my manual but I was never a tune up guy or AT guy.
Re: check engine codes 98 and 54
it's in the tranny
Re: check engine codes 98 and 54
^ thanks! makes sense since my transmission is not shifting to OD. I'll disconnect the battery again for a longer time.
I've done some reading - however not on this specific model - but it says the EPC is located in the tranny pan. Take off the pan and it's bolted right up in there. Is that the same for this model?
Does it measure transmission fluid/pressure - could I just be low on trans fluid? I checked the dip stick (motor warm) and it's in the thatched area so that means the level is good.
If you tell me I can reach the part without dropping major parts (transmission, drive shaft) then I'll go ahead and replace it.
Thanks for your response.
