power window motor acting funny
power window motor acting funny
I have a 1990 bronco II and I just replaced the Gear in my passenger side power window motor. When i pug the motor in while holding it in my hands it operates in both directions. When i install it I press the up button and it makes the window go down and when i press the down button it acts like its shorting out with the lights dimming. I took it back out and once again it works correctly in my hands outside of the door. I am confused as what could be wrong. any help would be appreciated.

Re: power window motor acting funny
You should check for binding after it is installed. If it dims the lights, that's usually a sign the motor is working too hard to get the window to work. Check to make sure the gears are ligned up properly, and the motor is sitting in the door straight, and not at an angle. Also check the regulator in the door to make sure it's not binding.
Hope this helps ya.

i'm going to check again. The biggest problem is not being able to see how the gears meetup and having to put the motor and bolts in primaraly by feel since it is inside the door.

I also ended up changing polarity of the wires to get the motor to turn in the correct direction. After being stumped on this for awhile I finally just bought a new motor. When i hooked it up right off the bat it was turning in the wrong direction. This suprised me since I had to change the wires already. I changed the wires back to their correct positions and now the motor is working correctly. I'm not sure what I did but somehow when I took the motor apart it made it reverse but all is good now. finally lol
