Heater core

Post by drofman »

OK you smart fellows time to pick your brain. 88 B2 and I have to replace the heater core once a year (yeah, i know the hardest part is taking the hose off).I've try them all (napa etc.....) but they don't last and all of them are probaly made in the same place. A couple of years ago chevy had a problem with their rad.and fixed it by grounding it. I'm thinking about trying this but want to know if someone had this happen to them or is my bucker taking over by the dark side.

Never seen a H-core eat up that way, but it could happen I guess. If your sure it's an electro issue, just solder a 14 gage wire onto the feed/hot side and ground it back to the engine.

I have seen many Cores replaced do to hoses pushed all the way up and leaking in a way it could not be seen, and dripping into the Core Housing. Silicone hoses are real good at this unless you use the correct clamps with Bellevelle washers.

Have the antifreeze tested. If it's too old it will eat the tubes out of the core by galvanic erosion. And sometimes if you have the wrong type it can do the same I have been told.
