'86 Bronco II 4x4 clutch problem or tranny problem

Post by zchess »

Hey guys I have a bronco II with a manual tranny and it will go in reverse but it sounds ruff. Then when in neutral it wont go into any of the gears. I don't know where to start. Could you give me some ideas of the possible problem.
Thanks

I have an 88 with a similar issue. My tranny started grinding as I put it in 2nd or 3rd. It was a small grind that progressively got worse until one cold day I couldn't get in into any gears but 5th and reverse. I need a tranny rebuild, at least new gears for 2nd and 3rd with synchronizers. But, it will be a good idea to replace the clutch and slave cylinder because labor to take it apart again is absurd.

I hope this helps. You probably need to rebuild the tranny.

I have received estimates for the work ranging from $1350 to $2100 for a rebuilt transmission, new clutch and new slave cylinder.
