5.0 Install
Re: 5.0 Install
I got my V8 in today. BUT, there are no pictures due to my phone breaking, I use the camera in that. It took a whole 30 minutes and I did my install with the headers on. Everything fits perfect! I have no clearance issues at all. I'll get pics posted ASAP. Can anyone tell me what starter to use with my bellhousing? Also I was going to install the tranny and everything (hopefully I can do that tomorrow if I get input on this) but I noticed a notch and 2 broken bolts at the bottom of the bellhousing. Is there something supposed to be mounted there? It would leave a small gap between the dust shield and the bellhousing. I thought the clutch should be sealed but maybe not? There's also 2 holes on the top side of it, and I see no way of sealing that area. The bellhousing is off an '84 F-150. I'm going to go to the junkyard next Friday and get everything I need to make it run. Oh, tips on distributor removal and keeping everything in time? Thanks alot!

Re: 5.0 Install
pull the dist cap off, turn the engine over(by hand) untill the rotor is pointing to somewhere that you wont forget. when you pull it out its gonna turn. hopfully the oil pump shaft will stay in the oil pump and not fall in the pan
Re: 5.0 Install
Alright thanks. Can you shed some info on the bellhousing? Is it okay to put on or am I missing something.

Re: 5.0 Install
what two holes?? this is a 84 bell off a 300 6
Re: 5.0 Install
The ones above the circular cut out in the center. And the indentation on the mating surface at the bottom. Its the darker area.Ranger Dave wrote:what two holes?? this is a 84 bell off a 300 6

Re: 5.0 Install
the indentation for a opening to let water/oil whatever out. the two holes are i would say to let heat out
you have the slave cyl for that bell??
you might have to change the clutch master to the f150 one. its a bolt in. the f150 one has a bigger bore meaning more fluid. i had to swap it in my ranger, there just wasn't enough pedal to disengage clutch

Re: 5.0 Install
I have the slave and master. I just have to pick up a clutch/ brake pedal assembly from a b2 or ranger.
Re: 5.0 Install
Sounds to me like everything is okay then. I'll be installing the tranny tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have pics.
Re: 5.0 Install
The tranny is in, still no clearance issues. Well, the shifter doesn't clear the dash, but that will be an easy fix. Still no pics, sorry. I have a concern with the pilot bearing as it didn't install very easily. Hopefully everything is okay. I also torqued the bolts on the pressure plate and I fear they will come loose over time. We will see once it's running I guess. Next thing is the transfer case. Hopefully that will be on tomorrow. A trip to the junkyard, a couple of wires, and I should be mobile.
Re: 5.0 Install
Transfer case is on. No clearance issues with that. Only clearance issues I have are with the shifters against the dash. I'll get that fixed with a hammer or metal shears though.
My speedo gear bolted right into the transfer case of the NP205. I'm not sure if this will work mechanically or not because the one I pulled out from the case was slighty different as far as the depth goes. Same number of teeth on the gear though. So if someone can confirm if it's okay or not would be great.
Alright. Here are the pics. Sorry about the quality of the pics and the shifter boot in the one. I took another without it there but I must of deleted it. If you want or need any different angles/ areas let me know and I can get them posted within a couple days, depending when I get to work on it.
