Had some major wiring melting issues in the LH fender area and need some help with 1 particular connection. After coming thru the firewall, a portion of the harness connects to the plug (as shown) with the wires going thru to the RH side of the comp. There is a wire with a "diode" which has melted and needs repairing. Any BII or Ranger that I could find at a wrecker does not have this setup and one of the Dealers here was of no help. Can anyone tell me if the "diode" needs to be there? If I could find out what "value" it should be I could make my own. I do not have an in depth wiring diargram so am at a loss. I would appreciate ANY info that I could get my hands on. Thanks very much.
Wiring comes from right side of eng comp. Black male plug connects to grey female plug which then goes thru firewall with all other wires under dash. Male plug wires correspond with female plug wires as follows: red/white stripe; red/grey stripe; purple/orange stripe; black/purple stripe. I hope I got the colours rite, not real easy to tell. Thanks for your help.
I just cut all my wires out of a 87 B2. I just installed a 289 in my B2, so I have looked over most of the harness while I was sorting out what I needed and what was junk.
Looking at the second pic, it looks liket the plug that goes to the alternator. If so it should have to slots that look like a house out let, the third one where the ground (round hole on a house outlet) should be a slot that goes across instead of up and down like the other two.
If that is not the right plug the take a pic of it so people can see the end of the plug. Tomorrow I will look at my old wiring harness and see where it goes. If it is in fact the alternator there should be a set of wires in their own wire loom that goes to the back of the alternator across the motor to the plug.
Thanks everyone, lots of information here! Wonderful!!! RangerDave, the diagram for the engine you sent shows a "diode" with a white/pink stripe followed by a green/white stripe. This looks like it could be it!! Is there any way of finding out what type of "diode" this is so I could buy the right one? Or would I likely have to finds a Ford Dealer who would be willing to dig deeper than the last one to help me out? Thanks again.
Looking at the picture of the diode it looks like a standard 1 amp diode. You can get them redily at car stereo install shops as they have to use them to install security systems. I am an installer and use them regularly.
