Lifter Noise?

Post by Badwind »

Hello,
I have a B2 with a 2.9, I replaced the head gaskets and had the heads checked for cracks. One had a crack so I replaced the cracked one with a spare head that I had. After everything was buttoned up I started it and drove it about 25 miles it ran fine, but the next morning when I started it it ran rough missing on one cylinder and there was a tapping like a valve wasn't working properly. after about 4 min at normal driving rmp it will quit down and start hitting on all cylinders, but once it cools down it does it all over again and sometimes it will sound like metal on metal. It ran fine before I changed the heads and gaskets. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

There was a slight tick before I changed the head gasket and heads, however it is very predominant now. The tick seems to be comming from both sides. No I didn't adjust the valves I know just about enough to be dangerous when it comes to automotive work but I'm allways willing to learn.

Thanks,
Steve

it could also be a exhaust leak at the manifold
