I know the thing is a POS, but i dont have the money or time to swap it for a manual one. my question is because it wont go into 4low by itself, cant i just take off the shift motor and switch it myself?

Yes you can. I'm not sure if it has a detent to hold it in gear though with the motor off. I've fixed a few of these motors, look here.... http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/sho ... p?t=123542

It works I have had to fix it a cuple times myself, but it only shifts into 4high which is nice.. but for what i want to do i need 4low. the owers before me had switched out the motor and trans from auto to standard and i guess they didnt hook up the electronics or something because i dont have reverse lights and it doesnt switch into 4low the light just blinks at me. If anyone has information how to fix this or bypass the speed sensor.. Any info or ideas that could help me would be awesome.. all i want to do is 4x4

K Ive been reading my chilton manual and theres something about the back-up lamp switch wire and the neutral safety switch wire. Im pretty sure these are the wires that were not connected but I really dont have an idea where they are. can someone point me in the right direction?
