88 BII Fuel guage problem

My Fuel guage always stays below empty no matter how much gas is in the tank.

That is a government installed device to get you to keep your fuel tank topped off.!!!

The fuel sender unit is a typical failure items on these RBV's . I think if you can find a new one they are pretty spendy. I have also heard that they are somewhat year sensitive.

I don't have any first hand experiences with the unit but I have heard of people pulling the sender assembly and finding a hole in the float of the sender. I guess the first thing I would do is disconnect the sender and measure the resistance. Then poor some fuel into the tank and check the resistance again. If you have change the sender is probably ok and so then you check the grounds and start working your way toward the dash checking connections.
