2.8L running again update :)

Post by MrD »

Thanks to everyone,

The 84 B 2 2.8L was running very rough:

stalling out at lights
run good on the hgwy yet on the off ramps it would die
after getting hot, it would have trouble starting
acting like it was flooded

Repairs:
insulated the fuel line
changed the fuel filter
rebuilt carb
new plugs, rotor, & cap
new ignition module on side of distributor

Now is starts after I drive it and it gets hot.
Starts usually on the 2nd try in the morning sometimes the first with only maybe a pump of the pedal.
Runs good on the road, still playing around with the idle.

Now I am working on trying to get emissions:
Do not buy a product called "Guaranteed to Pass" that goes into the fuel tank.
This product increased my numbers by almost 3x.

I was closer to passing before this product.

I am now going to replace all plug wires and the coil so I will know that my ignition system is up to par.

I think that the 2.8L doesn't have a fuel regulator, so next I might try replacing some of the emissions components: EGR, smog pump.

glad to hear its running. amazing what a good tune up does lol

as far as passing emissions, run 93 octane supreme fuel and maybe throw some octane boost into the tank, it burns completly and cleaner. plugs and wires never hurts. and tune the carb very lean before going for a test and bump it back up after the test. as long as the truck runs up to 3500 rpm without pinging the tester shouldn't have a problem.

good luck
