On my 1984 2.8L I found the O2 sensor but there is no wire going to it. I bought a new one but is it necessary the I put the new one if I can't find a connecting wire?
thanks-Kelly

kelly-
if you have a carburator then you do not need a 02 sensor. the previous owner probably had exhaust problems and went to the junk yard and got the exahust from a 86 and later fuel injected model. if it is fuel injected then let me know and i may be able to help so send me a pm, but the year you got i sort of doubt it is efi.
are you still having problems with the truck ?

Hey Vabronconut, thanks for the replies.
It would be nice to respond with 1st names, being you always respond to everyones questions.
Your memory is good, she is a carb system so someone probably did what you said.
currently:
rebuilt carb
new plugs, rotor, and cap
insulated fuel lines all the way back to the tank
new fuel filter before carb rebuilt
new oil changed in motor, tranny and front/rear axle
added a no smoke product to the engine oil and no smoking
Going to flush the radiator next and replace all belts
I turned up the idle, rechecked the tightness of the carb base bolts, all plug wires tight. I took it back to the carb rebuilder and he adjusted the air mixture and said it is running good.
I put about 1/2 to 3/4 a tank of ethanol in and she ran good for a 100 mile plus trip. Yesterday she started with the dying out and not wanting to start after running for a while. The temps are still slightly over 100 here. I have heard that ethanol burns very hot so maybe that is my problem.
I am off to the gym with her to see how she runs...

Re: Do I need the O2 sensor?
these early of cars were developed before the invent of ethanol, and i am not sure if they are capable of running it. i have never did allot of research on it though. sounds like you really have been taking care of this bronco though. for cooling issues which you have out there, i would look at your radiator, they engine may run at temp with the current one but will leave the engine compartment a little warm. these usually came with a single core radiator, so you may want to look into buying a dual core from a 89-90 model bii or ranger and throw it in. but its something you can do down the road. i have a good one one ebay right now for like $20 if your interested. trust me im not trying to push parts on you. i know it works from the efi models i would look into the dual core to make sure it fits before you go buying one though.
hope this helps
