88 bronco II not getting power to first fuel pump

Post by kyl3 »

i have an 88 bronco and it is not getting power to the external fuel pump but it getting good power to the rear pump. i have wired around the inertia switch-still no pwer but i twisted the wires together at the inertia switch and it is getting power through that wire. i have replaced the relay, there were three on the fenderwell and i was not sue wich one was the fuel pump relay bc i was told different things but they all click when i turn on the key. i have also checked the fuse under the dash and it is good. this all started when i was just driving on a very flat dirt road. i had to get pulled home. any info on this would really help me and i would appreciate it very much. i was thnking it could be a cut wire or a loose one but i dont know where the wire goes form the inertia switch to the pump.
thank you

Sounds like a bad pump. If you rear pump is getting power it rules out the inertia switch and relay so it's either wiring or pump. Try jumping from the inertia switch to the pump and see if it works, if so it's the wiring if not it's the pump.

thank you, i have jumped it straight from the bettery and the pump runs fine and builds up pressure and i am still getting good power through the inertia switch does anyone know where the pink/black wire goes from the inertia switch to the pump? does it go through many connectors or fuses?
thanx

if you have power at the middle (or green) relay and the inertia switch, then it is probably the pump.
Test for 12v at the pump when the key is switched on.

BTW you can use just about any pump in the front from any 84-86 Ford EFI vehicle. I know my SVO mustang
had a 110L one in front, and I thought about using an in-tank pump from a Nissan 240sx.....they are cheap.
