Need New Balls (Rear Door Damper Hinge Balls)

Post by CraigK »

I’m getting tired of using a piece of wood to hold up the rear door on my ’87 B2. I’ve seen the replacement dampers on eBay for ~$25, but my problem is the heim (hiem?) joint balls on the cab that the damper attaches to have rusted and broken off also. The L-shaped brackets appear to be tack welded on, with a small space on the backside to possibly install new balls, once I grind down and drill out the rusted remains of the old balls.

Has anyone dealt with this? How? Are new “balls” available? Where?

Thanks.

Ouch....that sucks. Seems like you should be able to buy some screw in replacements. I don't know where though.
