Need advice on strange rear driveshaft. 90 B II 4wd

Post by Al »

Well, I got the transmission fluid changed, noise reduced.
But a new noise , a squeaking/chirping from the rear when I decelerate. Does not change with brake application, rear end has enough fluid.
I'm pretty sure this is a u joint problem.

But its a strange rear driveshaft with 2 rubber boots. I thought it might be a cv joint but after another look I'm not sure. Parts house sold me 2 standard u joints and a little $40 dollar ball gizmo.

I have not yet torn it apart. Can someone tell me whats in there and if I should fix it or just get a standard driveshaft made by my local driveline builder.

What you describe sounds like the CV shaft. The U-Joint shaft is very easy to tell so CV is the only other option.
