I was thinking about a new transmission for my Jetta Seized up on me doing 70mph down the freeway. They say these things come in three, this is number two!
well.... you can add a windshield to that. Bought some wipers for the exploder.....pulled the old wiper and bumped wiper arm, which slammed down and broke the windshield.
I'm having a wonderful couple of weeks. Wifes grandmother recently passed away, so we had to fly the wife back for the funeral at the last minute. I had to take a week off work to watch the kids.
What next!

Not a trany for a Jetta! Talk to a stealership and see if they will take it in trade as is or find a trany or put it up on Craigslist. You will take it in the shorts but I bet you will be ahead vs the 4500. Give Rick a call he may have some secret thing.
Any way you go get it figured out fast, with the cost of fuel and the driving you do it will add up fast!
Ranger 5.o, needing another project like Rosie O'Donnell needs another M&M.
I would think that a Cambell-Nelson would have one for cheaper. I have found that VW is pretty good about keeping engine designs and bolt patterns. You might look at an older version. One thing to look for is that the diesels were geared a little lower than a gasser. They do use the same bolt pattern though.
EBSteve just likes to watch me break things.:-)
420HP and 775Ft lbs Now it is time to break things.
Mine was the auto. Come to find out it's very common for them to go out before 150K. I have a 118K on my car. I drive easy freeway miles. Was not hard on it at all.
The updated bill is now $5400+.Highway robbery! I looked into doing a manual swap, but I can't afford to be without a car for a month while I try to run down all the parts and do the work. I called around for a used tranny, but as expected there are none.
I called some tranny shops, but they all want the car so they can do a tear down before giving the real quote....which of course then they got you by the balls.
There are a places on the net selling them for 2K or so, but then you are dealing with shipping and returing the core, then if something is wrong, I'm without a car for a month or more.
Nope, I figure the best route for this one is head-on. Limped it into dealer today and took it like a sniveling little baby.
As for the exploder windshield, it can't be repaired. Glass guy said this one is going to spread for sure. My insurance is through State Farm, and they don't cover ding repair any more.....have to pay the deductible! They won't be my insurance company much longer.
sorry to hear that man yeah i was looking into those cars but refused to get one when i noticed there was no tranny dip stick. I think swapping to a stick would be the best.
