2 inch suspention lift

Post by gary6 »

i am going to put a 2 inch block suspention lift on the rear of my 88fb2. the front already has a 2 in lift and now it is time for the rear.and yes i have searched the forum with no answers to this question). So will i have to compleatly disconect the rear axel and driveshaft for the lift ( im worried that i will loose the correct angle of the axel).or can i do it one side at a time with out disconecting the driveshaft. also i have a (pos) tulip drive shaft. will the lift destroy the drive shaft until i get a better shaft i use he truck for daily driving.

to add a block, you will have to remove the u-bolts (and replace them), and separate the axle from the springs. you needn't worry about the axle angle, because the axle has perches - just assemble things back together and make sure it is all square - no gaps. your driveshaft might grenade on you. i have heard that over 2" of lift / sag, it will give up. mine was squealing with every rotation when i swapped it.

do not do one side at a time - it will be hard to get the blocks in there, and clamped flat. pain in the arse. jack up the vehicle, use jackstands on the frame, remove the rear wheels, place a jack under the axle, remove u-bolts, lower jack, install blocks and new ubolts, use threadlocker and lock nuts, tighten up to torque, take pictures for us, put rear wheels on, and lower vehicle. post pictures. i did a complete spring swap, and i left my driveshaft connected. didn't see the need to remove it.

hope this helps.
