I have a 12mm 12 point box wrench and a 12mm 12point 1/2'' drive socket, but even with a swivel on the socket I cant get the socket on straight on all but 2 of the bolts up front by the tcase and I am afraid of stripping the heads of the bolts. I was thinking of putting a piece of pipe on the box wrench, but I am also afraid of snapping the bolts. I would appreciate any help in how to get these bolts off. I have a few more questions (1) What fluids for the t-case and both differentials (2) What size wrench for these and where are the bolts located. The easiest thing to do is to block the tires, and put the tcase in neutral to turn the driveshaft to a position that the socket will fit. Then put it back into 2wd and un do the nuts. Then again in neutral to get at another bolt and so on until they are all off.
Don't worry about breaking the bolts. Not gonna happen. I'd use the wrench and stack another wrench or use a cheater. It applies more torque to the bolt, and less chance of it going crooked and screwing up the bolt head.
I always had to use a wrench(box end). Sockets didn't fit right. Then I would tap it with a hammer to break it loose. Custom impact wrench I guess you would call it.
