SWAP start (finally)
OK I got most of the electrical connectors disconnected and took off the power steering and ac compressor and all the hoses. now I have to get under and disconnect the starter cables and unbolt the exhaust, tranny mounts and rear driveshaft (front already disconnected).
Is there anything else I need to watch for? I cannot see anything else connected to the engine/tranny/transfer case?
Also where are you hooking a chain up to the passenger side of the engine? I see a great place for the drivers side, but nothing is good without taking off the valve covers which I dont really want to do. Any help there from you guys who pulled a 2.8/2.9 out?

I had a not electronic 2bl on my 2.8 so I just pulled the carb and used a carb plate to pull my engine. I have used a chain bolted to the front of one side head and the other side back of the head. I used another bolt(s) through the chain to keep the lift hook where I wanted it. Hope that helps some.
I left the manifolds on and just wraped the chain aroind that. it came right out, no problems.

Ok Here are the pics. I took the whole thing out at once and I think that I should have taken off the tcase. I had a little pain getting the tcase to level out as I dont have a leveler. Anyway laying on my back using my feet lifted it up and over the engine crossmember while my wife pulled the lift back.
As far as the np205, what years and what model of ford came with the lowest gears?
Also I am toying with the idea of selling off the 7.5" w detroit and going with an 8.8 d44 with gears like 3.50 for better street with the AOD. I dont know exactly yet. The main reason is I dont want to have to setup a frontend with 4.56 to match the rear. Oh well we shall see

all 78-79 Broncos came with a np 205 and the gear ration on all of them were 1.96:1 not very low but very beefy. the good thing about them is you can make a doubler if you want. in the late 70's "F" series pickup's i think you can find np205, or np203 mainly np205.
Darker than your average wheeler!!!!
congrats on the pull!
just a warning.....that 205 is heavy!
the doubler that D-diesel is talking about is a 203/205. not sur how it is made but it is using a 203.

Well there is no turning back now. The 2.9/trany/tcase is gone!!! The guy who bought it just left. Now I have to decide if I am going fullsize axles or wait for a friend to see if he can find an EBd44.
Does anyone have any pics of a FS d44 setup with coil buckets using the either welded on wedges or cast on ones? How much wider will the coil buckets be if I buy the cast wedge d44 from the frame? Thanks guys for everything.
