Stuck Tranny
Im just about done with my 4.0 swap into my B2 but now have another problem. The Tranny is stuck!!! When I pulled it out I drained all the fluids and let it sit for maybe a month. It worked just fine when it came out but now it is stuck in 4th gear! It wont shift into any other gears or even into neutral. I drove it around for a while but didn't help. Any suggestions?
I KNOW IT SOUNDS SILLY BUt are you sure the shifter is installed properly? when i replaced the 5 speed in my dads explorer i had a similar problem that required removing the shift handle then using a screw driver to rech down and center the shiift lever because the tranny was in gear but the shifter wasnt hope that helps keep me posted
Do you know what tranny you have?
When I first had my tranny rebuilt, it got stuck in a gear. The problem basically was it shifted a gear to far, which allowed couple keys to pop out of place, preventing shifting. The fix was just to pull an inspection cover and pop the keys into place. The ultimate cause was from a worn out shifter. The tranny shop rivoted a small block into the shifter which prevented shifting too far. Never had another problem with it.
Can you turn the input shaft at all? Might just be a matter of getting the gears aligned enough to shift. As mentioned above, make sure you get all the shift rails centered. It does take a little leverage to move them without a shifter.
