84 BII VALVES AND CARBS.

Post by MADDOGNV »

HELP! I HAVE A 84 BII, 2.8. I BOUGHT IT A COUPLE YEARS AGO FOR $200 BUCKS. JUST GOT IT BACK ON THE ROAD, BLOWN TRANSFER CASE, FRONT U-JOINTS, TUNE-UP. PROBLEM IS , I DOING A VALVE ADJUSTMENT AND I DON'T KNOW WHICH IS THE INTAKE AND WHICH IS THE EXHAUST VALVES. ALSO, I HAVE A 83 RANGER, SAME MOTOR, CARB. WHAT'S THE SECRET ON REBUILDING THESE CARBS. DID TWO OF THEM, GOOD CLEANING, BLOWN OUT WITH COMPRESSED AIR AND ABASIC CARB KIT AND I STILL GET CRAP MILEAGE. ANY IDEA'S?

i have had a few of these motors over the years currently have 84 B2 i have tryed rebuilding them and bought a factory reman carb and in my experiance the simplest solution is get a carb from a late seventies mustang II with 2.8 it get rid of the computer feed back and you may want to think about the distributor duraspark box and coil from one too i did this all about 1 1/2 yrs ago and it was the best thing i ever did for drivability of the bronc

to find intake and exhuast valve remove spark plug in #1 and get it to tdc (top dead center) of the compression stroke (both valves are closed) then the next stroke the exhuast valve will open so you kno its exhuast and others intake

hope that make since
