Dana44 brake swap

Post by NMB2 »

so right now my HP44 is drums....i know how the 5lug disc swap works but what parts are used in a 8lug swap.

Reason - my D60 rear is SF 35spline 8lug and i dont want to modify it in any way..no wheelspacers, redrilling ect.

anyone have the answer?

If you have drum knuckles, then you can just bolt on the chevy 8 lug stuff, same as the 5 lug conversion. If you want to run a 15" wheel, you will need to grind the caliper and caliper bracket a bit. I ran 8 lug on my Bronco II for awhile before switching back to 5 lug.

Also, try to get the bearing hub that takes the internal vs external lockout. The internal lockout was used on some of the 80's era 10 bolts.

There was no 12 bolt front end that I'm aware of. But yes, if you have the spindles, backing plates, calipers and bearing hubs, you should be good to go. If you stick with the ford drum knuckle, you will have to grind a little bit for the backing plate and caliper clearance. Not a big deal.
