Cam for a 302?

Post by Hasster »

Starting to build my new motor (302 V8)... it is from a 89 crown vic with fuel injection. I am going to install the computer and fuel injection system. This is goingl be an offroad truck mostly so I am looking for something with good torgue and low end power. Going to be hooking it up to an aod tranny and not sure what transfer case yet. Any other suggestions would be helpful. I am just at the start of the project.

with the auto tranny u dont want to get something with to big of a lift because a stall converter will have to be used. i would check out jegs.com and summitracing.com they have many choises of ford4x4 cams. with the auto tranny i wouldnt run nything bigger than a 480 degrees of lift

Get the Ford E-303 cam. Good torque, nice horsepower.

I would try to find a good RV cam. Stay away from stall converters unless you are racing. 302's aren't know for bottom end torque, so you will be looking at torque ranges starting at 1500 rpm or higher. Study the summit catalog.
