clicking/tapping noise when using 4wd

Post by nrandell »

When I'm using 4 wheel drive I notice a steady clicking noise only when I'm moving. It sounds like it's coming from the transfer case or possibly the front end. Is this normal? The previous owner said it was just the chain.

Should I be hearing anything different when using 4wd?

Thanks.

The U-joints could be bad int the front driveline or the axle shafts. Usually dry u-joints will talk to you before they go. A chain will make periotic slapping noises not consistent clicking noises. Also I have had worn out stock hubs make the clicking noise.
