Converting an '84 Bronco II 2.8 to a 4.0

Basically I'm well aware that it's very readily done with newer broncos but I'm curious about putting a 4.0 in my carbureted '84 BII. I have a few questions which basically include,

1. What kind of difficulty can I expect with wiring it up?
2. I have a stock 5-speed manual in there now, is this sufficient?
3. I’ve heard that mounting a 4.0 in say a '89 BII is a direct
bolt in, does this hold true for the '84?
4. Any other input on any aspect is very readily welcome...

as far as bolting it in I would say it is the same as the newer BII's you might want to do some research on the tranny though. I have talked to some people about different input shaft lengths that might get in the way...as far as the wiring goes...you will need to pick threw the manuals and figure out what you need. if I remember right you just need to find out about 7-15 wires to make everything work.

I am going to bet that your tranny is not really going to hold for long, so if you can find a 4.0L that still has the M50d hooked to it grab that too.

Thanks everyone for the quick and informative reply. This info helps a ton and brought into the light some very immediate problems being the transmission and the fuel delivery system (runs off the cam shaft I believe on my Bronco II no electric delivery system whatsoever) among other annoying but in my opinion very addressable problems. Oh and that article is pure Gold thankyou very much.
