Stalls while idleing

Post by twobit66 »

i'm helpin out a bronco friend. his truck just dies after 10 mins or so of running at an idle then will not start at all. after a random period of hours sometimes days it will start right up again. sometime it last serveral hours and sometimes just 10 mins before dieing.

88 2.9L he has replaced several sensors, computer had the TFI dio'ed by a shop. repleced fuel pumps and relays.

as far a i can tell it's got to be electrical after it dies there is still plenty of fuel to the fuel rail.

:wtf: just don't know where to go from here

Yep, back to the basics, fuel, compression, fire.

It does however sound exactly like the symptoms of a bad TFI module. Could also be the coil.

Even if the TFI tested ok, it could still be bad because it pukes after it warms up.

coil tests good and after going back to the basics it comes down to somethings not telling the injectors to work (or work in time) i'll try another TFI and see what happens 86 - 88 the same ?? i have an 86 -87 distributer. i could test with.

eather that or i was thinking the air flow sensor might be tweaky. they had those in 88. my 4.0 does the same thing almost if i unhook the intake tube.
