Axle Swap

Hey guys I'm looking to give my '88 Bronco II a nice 6" suspension lift. I would like to know of anyone who has a 6" suspension lift and what size tires and the name of the axles you swapped. Also, were the axles you swapped with bolt in or did you have to drill, weld, or modify some other way? I ...

lol yeah. Ok. So here's what I'll do. I'll put 32's on a set of 4.10's on both front and rear end. Sound like a good plan?

So if I want my 2.9 to work the 32" tires and the lift, I'll definitely need to regear...right? lol yeah, money isn't really something I'm looking at working under. I mean, I wanna do this as less expensive as possible, but when it comes to the safety of myself and any other person I may be carrying ...

Ok. Let me recap on all that I've learned and you all let me know if I'm off on anything... For the 6" lift, I'm looking to replacing the CV joint stock driveshaft with the U joint style and having it extended completely (by the way, do you know about how long I'll need it to be?). I'll be looking ...

Ok. So I'm gonna go with a 6" lift with 32's. Does that qualify for new gearings in the rear axle? How about the front axle?

Ok. I'm pretty tempted to just go all the way with a 6" lift...

So, I should invest in a 4.10 Dana 28 or 35? I know I won't be able to keep my stock 3.73 under there if I go with the 6"...

Gosh, man now that you to me that, I feel so stupid! I had learned that in physics learning about transfer of energy, direction of movement and ratios! Gosh...but I'm glad you told me! So I have an axle ratio of 3.73. If I throw on a 6" lift and put some 32's on it, will I have to do an axle ...

Thanks, texastud! That was very helpful! I agree. I've seen many body lifts but on F-150s and Rangers and it was ugly...I don't think I would ever put a body lift on my Bronco II without having a suspension lift on it first. And even then, I probably wouldn't put more than a 2" lift on the body. Ok ...

So while on the subject of gearing and bigger tires, let me ask this: if at any time I were to go to a larger tire, I would have to regear my ...

Man, I really appreciate the posts. I've never been the "body" guy. Ok. So for a 3" lift, its: - Possible regear depending upon the size of tire and type of offroading - Possibly extending the front brake lines For a 6", it's: - Definitely redo the brakes - Definitely replace the driveshaft or ...

Thanks for the reply.

Ok. Let's say I wanted a 6" lift...I can already tell that there's probably a little bit of work ahead of me...what kind of hidden work would be there for me on this?
