OK I have set my mind to building a straight axle out of TTB D35.
I know I know why waste the time, well I already have a locker in it and it will be a far less expensive swap.
Any way does anybody have link to any info on this? I know others have done it I just can't find much info on the subject.
I've been searching ????

honestly, I think you are going to findout you are going to have more time and money wraped up in that then if you sell someone the locker and just swap in a solid axle. besides that housing is going to be large and heavy.
from what I am hearing why don't you just sell the whole front, locker and all to someone with a D28? you might be able to get a whole truck for what you can get out of it in some areas.

Having wheeled TTB for many years, and now straight axle for many years, I think welding the TTB would definately be an improvement.....somewhat of a waste of time, but definately an improvement.
For sure you'd want extended radius arms, and you'll need to add a trac bar, and probably different coils. I think you'd be time and money ahead to find yourself a Dana 44.

Well I knew most would not see it my way but here is the deal, I have the material to build the axle and the three link, I'm going to run. So I need to buy some heims and new coils. So figure 100-150 for the springs and another 100 for the heims and I'm looking at 250 tops. I would still have to purchase these things if I used a D44 or other straight axle sooo.
As for weight I think it will be real close, think about it aluminum center section, stamped axle end C's , the D44 center and C's alone would weigh more the amount of steel I will need to add to my axle.
Not to mention most any 6 year old could do an axle swap useing an off the shelf axle. Bottom line is I'm cheap and have the time, parts, and skill to do this right, I'm just looking for info on how others have done it.
Thanks so far, if you have any more info keep it comeing

I found that the ttb fronts tend to be bigger than the solid axle housings thus creating a big push blade. Think of it this way solid axle appox. 3 inches. Ttb approx. 5-6 inches. I don't push nearly as much with my straight axle, Especially in the snow.
EBSteve just likes to watch me break things.:-)
420HP and 775Ft lbs Now it is time to break things.
