How to identify manual transmission

Post by NewBlackDak »

Proud new owner of a BII. I'm the 3rd owner of an '86 Bronco II. The 2.9L engine has about 50K on it. I did valve cover gaskets due to a leak, but it runs strong. A reman transmission was put in at some point, and the previous owner doesn't really know the details of it. How do I identify which transmission it has. It had a new clutch put in about 6 months ago. It likes to pop out of fifth when you let off the throttle at highway speed. It has been a long time since I had to troubleshoot a manual transmission, so I'm just looking for a starting point.

It’s likely a Mitsubishi FM145. But these vehicles are so damn old you never know what previous owners have done. Check out the link for a list of common B2 transmissions. You can then do an image search or whatever and match up the trans to what you see in your rig. Cheers
